Last month, six members from The Well Christian Fellowship in Simi Valley, CA filled their suitcases with fabric and traveled to San Jose, Costa Rica. The fabric had been donated by the generous customers of Quilty Pleasures in Simi Valley, a fabric “heaven” and social hub for passionate quilters.
The team’s goal was to teach the women to make pillowcases and table runners which could later be sold and/or used in their own homes.
When the team arrived with all of the fabric their luggage could contain as well as two brand new sewing machines, they were greeted with open arms and eager hearts. Even though the women knew the basics, there was still much to teach. So the trip proved pleasingly productive.
“It was so much fun to be with the women there, knowing that it could have a positive impact on their lives,” Kathy shared. “I love beautiful fabrics and I love to sew. This was the perfect fit for me! We went to help in a practical way and also share our passion for sewing and share more about our personal journeys with Christ.”
The women were also taught how to make table-runners. The beautiful selection of fabrics gave each seamstress an opportunity to express herself through her fabric choice and color combinations. Each runner was valuable because it was handmade and one of a kind.
At CCH, we don’t know how to sew. But we are sure that there are many of you who do. Why not open doors in practical ways in your own neighborhood?
Please let us know what comes to mind for you! We would love to start a wave of inspired crafters who are changing hearts and making a difference in the lives of others.
